Events Programme

The River Project runs a wide variety of free public events ranging from mammal days and dragonfly walks to tree planting and river clean ups. All events are advertised in local shops/notice boards throughout the Valley and printed in the local papers so keep an eye out for further details.

APRIL

Saturday 19th April:  Tree Nursery open day

Come along to an open day at the River Colne Community Tree Nursery.  See what your local schools have been sowing and help with a specially organised task

Drop in between 10am and 2pm, Lees Mill lane, Linthwaite

 

MAY

Tuesday 27th May:  Half term pram easy walk

A short circular walk along the River Colne on a newly upgraded path built to accommodate individuals with limited mobility

Meet 10am at Lowestwood Lane, Linthwaite

Wednesday 28th May:  Half Term Owl Treat

Join Thurlstone Owl Sanctuary for a talk and live display of our native owls

Sunday 1st June:  Dragonfly Drama

Learn how to identify and survey for these mystical species with the British Dragonfly Society.  Includes ID skills and walk

Meet on West Slaithwaite Road at the canal bridge.

Saturday 7th June:  Creatures of the Night-Moth Madness

An evening with experts catching, identifying and recording local moth species as part of National Moth Night.

Thursday 24th July: Bat Talk and Walk

Enjoy a short talk about these wonderful creatures and learn how the River Project and volunteers are helping these protected species.  Followed by a short walk

Tuesday 29th July: Summer holiday Blue Plaque Walk

Walk around the Colne Valley viewing the buildings and features that have been celebrated with a Blue Plaque recently

AUGUST

Saturday 16th August: 2nd Valley Brewery Walk

A summer walk between the Valleys micro breweries with a tour of the Golcar Brewery.

12pm at the Empire Brewery, Slaithwaite.

TOUR COSTS: £10 per head, WHICH INCLUDES THE TOUR OF THE GOLCAR BREWERY, PIE AND PEAS AND 2 OR 3 PINTS OF DIFFERENT BEERS PUT ON ESPECIALLY FOR OUR TOUR.

SEPTEMBER

Sunday 21st September: Marsden Mushroom Madness

Enjoy a walk around Tunnel End to search out this years crop of fungi.

Sunday 19th October: River Colne Conker Championship

Take on the staff of the River Project and try and take this years crown. Adults and childrens competition

An Introduction to Moths

Very popular and interesting event. Unfortunately it was a clear crisp night and people out numbered moths!
